Walking the walk, dancing the dance

My most exciting wildlife experience to date! Today my daughter and I saw not one, but two lyrebirds - doing their courtship dance. This is an extraordinary thing to see. We heard the lyrebird first - imitating whip birds, rosellas, some kind of almost electronic game sound - and then saw him. He had all his magnificent tail feathers fanned around his head. He kept calling, jumping up and down and bobbing. On a large fallen tree sat another bird. We assumed she was a she. However, when the first lyrebird finished his dance, the other one jumped down and began his dance. Later we sighted a third bird and assumed she was the one they were out to impress. It really was a wonderful thing to see.
