Book Launch
Yesterday I attended the book launch of Marian Spires' poetry collection, Knowing Vincent, Picaro Press. Lia Hills was in conversation with Marian and kept calling the book a verse novel - but I'd disagree with this and say it was a thematic collection of poems, rather than verse novel, as we learn about Vincent through the various voices of the women in his life. Yes, these do provide a chronological record of his life, but it's not a novel in the accepted sense. It's fragmented snapshots of one character through the eyes of others - the structure isn't novelistic.
It was a great launch, however, and interesting to hear Marian talk about her journey - both literally and metaphorically.
