The other gifts I love to give are books.
I've already started my Christmas book stash thanks to The Little Bookroom. I was there the other day, fortuitously, and they were, as always, stupendously helpful. I had a couple of kind of difficult requests to make, too - a 'summer' book full of happiness but still well-written & something gripping and adventurous, both for teenage girlies. I also wanted a picture book - the title of which I didn't exactly know. They come up trumps, every time. So, if you're looking for presents for the younger readers or young adults in your life, don't forget The Little Bookroom.
It's also in a great new location in Nicholson Street, Carlton - just a few doors north from a terrific cheese shop. I had marinated goats' cheese from there on my walnut bread this afternoon. I obviously had a good afternoon in Carlton!
I'm on a bit of a mission to give the boyman books to grow up with - books that I don't think he'd necessarily find for himself but which might resonate with him in the future. I've already given him Kerouac's On the Road, Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five and Hunter S Thompson's Fear and Loathing. Also gave him Bukowski's autobiography as he likes Bukowski's poetry - any suggestions gratefully received. Fantasy and science fiction books are totally taken care of by his own interests - it's more that I'm also tempting him with a different literary world here.

I need a couple of titles of good picture books to give aty Christmas. What was the one you got from the Little Book Room?
Predictably I ordered The Cuckoo's Haiku and other birding poems...But there are any number of fabulous looking picture books out - Fearless by Colin Thompson, illustrated by Sarah Davis is a book that will engage kids, Jackie French has a new wombat book - a sequel to her fabulous Diary of a Wombat, this is called Baby Wombat's Week and is illustrated by Bruce Whatley, as was the first book. mem Fox's The Goblin and the Empty Chair is a fiarytale suitable for slightly older readers - a picture book to grow with - and beautifully illustrated by American couple, Leo and Diane Dillon.
