The Word Tree

Peter Fernon performed from The Epic of Gilgamesh on Saturday, complete with shadow puppets. It was a wonderful performance - the language moves from the bawdy storyteller voice to the more formal language of the epic. Peter sang some of the parts - a robust hunting song with audience participation and a plaintive, haunting song sung by Gilgamesh on the death of Enkidu.

Because there was a double booking, we used the outside of the cafe - and it worked. It was actually perfect for the storytelling - like being in an ancient market square, birds swooping past and the occasional shout from some kids kicking a football around in the adjoining park.
